Krishna Puja is a gentle, joyful puja in which we welcome Lord Krishna like a dear child of the house, bathe him, dress him, offer him butter and sweets, and sing to him. You do not need a priest; a happy heart and simple offerings are enough. The day beforeएक दिन पहले
- Clean the house and the puja corner, and keep the altar space neat and bright.घर और पूजा के कोने की सफ़ाई कर लें, और वेदी की जगह को साफ़-सुथरा व रोशन रखें।
- Buy fresh flowers, tulsi leaves, makhan mishri and fruits, and check every item on the list.ताज़े फूल, तुलसी के पत्ते, माखन-मिश्री और फल ले आएँ, और सूची की हर चीज़ देख लें।
- If you have a Laddu Gopal, keep his small clothes, a soft towel and a bowl ready for his bath.घर में लड्डू गोपाल हों तो उनके छोटे वस्त्र, मुलायम तौलिया और स्नान के लिए कटोरी तैयार रखें।
- Prepare the diya wicks, and keep matchsticks or a lighter safely near the altar.दीये की बत्तियाँ तैयार कर लें, और माचिस या लाइटर वेदी के पास सुरक्षित रखें।
- On Janmashtami, many families keep a fast and do the puja at midnight; decide the time together and let children rest beforehand.जन्माष्टमी पर कई परिवार व्रत रखते हैं और आधी रात को पूजा करते हैं; समय मिलकर तय कर लें और बच्चों को पहले थोड़ा आराम करा लें।

Clean and get readyसफ़ाई और तैयारी
Clean the puja corner and bathe before you begin. Wear fresh, clean clothes; yellow is a lovely choice. Wash your hands before touching the idol and the food items.पूजा शुरू करने से पहले पूजा का कोना साफ़ करें और स्नान कर लें। साफ़, ताज़े कपड़े पहनें; पीला रंग बहुत सुंदर रहता है। मूर्ति और भोग की चीज़ों को छूने से पहले हाथ धो लें।

Set the altarवेदी सजाएँ
Place the chowki in the puja corner and spread the yellow cloth. Seat Krishna in the centre, with a little rice under him. Keep the thali, flowers, tulsi and bhog items within easy reach.पूजा के कोने में चौकी रखें और उस पर पीला कपड़ा बिछाएँ। कृष्ण जी को बीच में बिठाएँ और उनके नीचे थोड़े चावल रखें। थाली, फूल, तुलसी और भोग की चीज़ें पास में रखें।

Light the lamp and settleदीया जलाएँ और बैठें
Light the ghee diya and the incense. Sit on a mat, take a few quiet breaths, and sprinkle a few drops of Gangajal on yourself and the items. Say in your own words that you are doing this puja with love.घी का दीया और अगरबत्ती जलाएँ। आसन पर बैठकर कुछ शांत साँसें लें और अपने ऊपर तथा सामग्री पर गंगाजल की कुछ बूँदें छिड़कें। अपने शब्दों में कहें कि आप प्रेम से यह पूजा कर रहे हैं।

Welcome Krishnaकृष्ण जी का स्वागत
Fold your hands and invite Krishna into your home like a beloved child. Ring the bell softly and offer a little water at his feet. You can sing a short bhajan or simply say "Welcome, Kanha".हाथ जोड़कर कृष्ण जी को घर के प्यारे बच्चे की तरह निमंत्रण दें। घंटी हल्के से बजाएँ और उनके चरणों में थोड़ा जल अर्पित करें। आप कोई छोटा भजन गा सकते हैं या बस "स्वागत है, कान्हा" कह सकते हैं।

Give him a bathस्नान कराएँ
For a Laddu Gopal, place him in a clean plate or bowl and pour a little milk or panchamrit gently, then rinse with Gangajal or clean water. Wipe him softly with a clean cloth. For a picture or a large idol, just sprinkle a few drops and wipe gently.लड्डू गोपाल को साफ़ थाली या कटोरी में रखकर थोड़ा दूध या पंचामृत धीरे से डालें, फिर गंगाजल या साफ़ पानी से धो लें। साफ़ कपड़े से हल्के से पोंछ दें। तस्वीर या बड़ी मूर्ति हो तो बस कुछ बूँदें छिड़ककर हल्के से पोंछ दें।

Dress and decorateवस्त्र और श्रृंगार
Dress him in fresh clothes, and place a peacock feather, a small flute or a garland if you have them. Apply a light chandan tilak. Seat him on the chowki and let the family see him together.उन्हें ताज़े वस्त्र पहनाएँ, और मोरपंख, छोटी बाँसुरी या माला हो तो सजाएँ। हल्का चंदन का तिलक लगाएँ। उन्हें चौकी पर विराजमान करें और पूरा परिवार साथ मिलकर दर्शन करे।

Offer flowers and tulsiफूल और तुलसी अर्पित करें
Place flowers and the garland at his feet and offer a few tulsi leaves. Put the coins, betel leaf and supari nearby. Each family member can offer a flower, and children enjoy doing this.फूल और माला उनके चरणों में रखें और कुछ तुलसी के पत्ते चढ़ाएँ। सिक्के, पान का पत्ता और सुपारी पास में रखें। परिवार का हर सदस्य एक-एक फूल चढ़ा सकता है, बच्चों को यह करना अच्छा लगता है।

Offer bhogभोग लगाएँ
Place makhan mishri, sweets and fruits on a clean plate and put a tulsi leaf on top. Keep the food simple and freshly made, usually without onion and garlic. Offer it with folded hands for a minute and keep it covered until the puja ends.साफ़ थाली में माखन-मिश्री, मिठाई और फल रखें और ऊपर एक तुलसी का पत्ता रखें। भोजन सादा और ताज़ा बना हो, आमतौर पर बिना प्याज़-लहसुन के। हाथ जोड़कर एक मिनट के लिए अर्पित करें और पूजा पूरी होने तक ढककर रखें।

Chant the mantraमंत्र जाप
Sit calmly and chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" 11 or 108 times. You can count on a mala or with grains of rice. The whole family can chant together, and children can simply repeat after you.शांति से बैठकर "ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय" 11 या 108 बार बोलें। गिनती माला से या चावल के दानों से कर सकते हैं। पूरा परिवार साथ बोल सकता है, और बच्चे बस आपके पीछे दोहरा सकते हैं।

Do the aartiआरती करें
Light the camphor on the thali and sing the Krishna aarti, such as "Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki", together. Move the thali slowly in a clockwise circle before him, and blow the conch softly if you have one. Then everyone gently passes their hands over the flame and touches them to the eyes.थाली में कपूर जलाएँ और सब मिलकर कृष्ण जी की आरती, जैसे "आरती कुंज बिहारी की", गाएँ। थाली को उनके सामने धीरे-धीरे घड़ी की दिशा में घुमाएँ, और शंख हो तो हल्के से बजाएँ। फिर सब लौ के ऊपर से हाथ घुमाकर हल्के से आँखों से लगाएँ।

Close and share prasadसमापन और प्रसाद
Bow down, ask forgiveness for any mistake in the puja, and thank Krishna. On Janmashtami, many families gently rock a small cradle after midnight and sing a birth song. Share the prasad with everyone and tie kalawa on the wrists.प्रणाम करें, पूजा में हुई किसी भी भूल के लिए क्षमा माँगें और कृष्ण जी को धन्यवाद कहें। जन्माष्टमी पर कई परिवार आधी रात के बाद छोटे झूले को हल्के से झुलाते हैं और जन्म के गीत गाते हैं। सबको प्रसाद बाँटें और कलाई पर कलावा बाँधें।

If Laddu Gopal lives in your home, many families care for him like a child: wake him gently in the morning, bathe and dress him, offer simple bhog at meal times, and put him to rest at night. Keep it simple and do only what your family can do regularly with love.यदि आपके घर में लड्डू गोपाल हैं, तो कई परिवार उनकी बच्चे की तरह देखभाल करते हैं: सुबह धीरे से जगाना, स्नान और वस्त्र, भोजन के समय सादा भोग, और रात को विश्राम कराना। इसे सरल रखें और केवल उतना ही करें जितना आपका परिवार प्रेम से नियमित रूप से कर सके।

Helpful tipsकाम की बातें
- On Janmashtami, the midnight hour is the usual time; on other days, morning or evening both work well.जन्माष्टमी पर आधी रात का समय प्रचलित है; अन्य दिनों में सुबह या शाम दोनों ठीक रहते हैं।
- Keep the mood light and joyful; Krishna is worshipped with songs, stories and a little play.माहौल हल्का और आनंद भरा रखें; कृष्ण जी की पूजा गीत, कहानियों और थोड़ी मस्ती के साथ की जाती है।
- Involve children: let them dress a small Laddu Gopal with help, offer flowers and sing the aarti.बच्चों को शामिल करें: वे बड़ों की मदद से छोटे लड्डू गोपाल को सजा सकते हैं, फूल चढ़ा सकते हैं और आरती गा सकते हैं।
- Offer what you can comfortably afford; sincere love matters more than a long list of items.जितना आराम से हो सके उतना ही चढ़ाएँ; सच्चा प्रेम लंबी सूची से ज़्यादा मायने रखता है।

- If you forget a step, simply carry on calmly; the spirit of the puja is devotion.कोई चरण भूल जाएँ तो शांति से आगे बढ़ें; पूजा का असली भाव श्रद्धा है।
Common mistakes to avoidइन बातों का ध्यान रखें
- Do not leave burning diyas or camphor unattended, especially near curtains or children.जलते दीये या कपूर को अकेला न छोड़ें, ख़ासकर पर्दों या बच्चों के पास।
- Try not to use wilted flowers or stale food; fresh and simple is best.मुरझाए फूल या बासी भोजन चढ़ाने से बचें; ताज़ा और सादा सबसे अच्छा रहता है।
- Avoid rushing through the puja or checking phones in the middle of it.पूजा जल्दबाज़ी में न करें और बीच में फ़ोन देखने से बचें।
- Do not feel worried about small mistakes; there is no need to repeat the puja.छोटी-मोटी भूलों की चिंता न करें; पूजा को दोबारा करने की ज़रूरत नहीं है।
